Do more this weekend.
For those of you who wake up feeling like you need another eight hours of sleep, a great way to jumpstart your energy is to hit the gym for a quick cardio session. But usually that means twice as much prep time for your hair and make up. While it is recommended to shower afterwards (come one, we’re all ladies here) we’ve got your hair covered. Created by hair guru Lacy Redway for Refinery29, we wanted to share them with you just in case you missed ‘em the first time around. Appropriate for laid back start-ups to a high-powered corporate setting, these hair dos will have you actually wanting to go to the gym. Yeah.
I may be getting a bit ahead of myself but it's been beautiful in the Bay Area and I'm a little too excited for summer. Pale colors grounded in white is the perfect combo for a clean summer look. The White Swan Hoodie brings some life to the look and makes a fun fashion statement.
Today is my errands day. Which, of course, means that on top of the grocery store, dry cleaners, etc, I'm visiting manufacturers, pattern cutters, and everything. I needed something comfortable but professional so I'm slipping on my Pinstripe Pencil Skirt and Square Neck Top to maximize comfort, especially since I'm wearing booties all day! To top it off, I'm throwing on a collection of bangles because every outfit needs a tiny hint of glam.
Our friend, Karen Appleton SVP @BoxHQ, stopped by the White House last week for the Cinco de Mayo celebration wearing our label.
Some days are better than others. One Saturday, I had a text from a friend of the company asking me to have coffee the next day with a client of hers, Muni Fry. Ms Fry was heading to The Met Gala only two weeks away but didn't have an appropriate dress. She wanted her dress to reflect the theme given by the host, Anna Wintour. Coffee lead to a same-day studio visit and then a few sketches.
Monday I was buying fabric, a sueded 4-ply silk in cobalt blue. My first toile was in a sueded charmeuse. It took an all-nighter to complete the sewing for the first toile for a fitting to get the design worked out.
My former classmate and colleague, Jungah Lee, stepped in to sew the final garment, which took three fittings and two sewn garments. The day before Ms Fry left for NY, the dress was completed and packed for the trip. She gathered beautiful bangles, a vintage purse, and perfect earrings.
We were so pleased and honored to work on this dress. Thank you Kim, Muni, Jungah, and Giovanna for your help on this one.
Today is one of those days where I'm running between 100 different things, and probably need several outfits just for the afternoon. Instead, I'm throwing on my white Go-To dress and bringing two sets of shoes and jackets. The Oversize Jacket is perfect for my meetings and the hoodie is great for lunch and a well-deserved happy hour at the end of this crazy day! I'm bringing flats and sneakers along for the ride, for a mix of professionalism and comfort. These two swaps will keep me looking appropriate for everything I need to do.
For a nice relaxing day I'm throwing on this flirty/sporty look. The Tease shirt brings its Parisian flirty chic flair and pairs perfectly with my Bubble Skirt. The sneakers bring a sporty (and comfortable) edge that totally changes the feeling of the look.
Spring has sprung and that means it's time for some color. I'm hesitant with mixing colors on myself so I'm starting with my white Pencil Skirt as a base. Our new Orange Tunic was the first thing I gravitated to this morning so that went on top. A major pop of color just feels completely necessary.
Have you heard about Camille Claudel, the talented sculptor who lived a tragic life? Last year her life captivated not one but two authors. Betsy Franco penned the novel, Naked, and Heather Webb wrote the historical novel, Rodin's Lover. Last night both authors organized a celebration of Camille's life at the Hotel Monaco with the help of Jennifer Webb.
We presented an event where our models brought five of Camille's sculptures to life by posing like the figures in each piece. Have a look at the human sculpture in these photos.
For me, the story told through these poses starts with The Beginning, moves to Introspection, then the colorful Finding Love, followed by the Harmony of friends, and finally, Confidence. This was a most satisfying presentation and was honored to be a part of it.
For my outfit tonight, I decided to just throw my Maverick Jacket over what I've been wearing all day - my gray Go-To Dress. The jacket elevates my look a bit and gives it a brand new feeling. I'm thinking I'll top it all off with a black leather belt over the jacket to tie it all together.
Today I'm turning a completely basic, normal outfit on its head. I took the jeans and hoodie look and luxed it up. My black Skinny Pants were the obvious first choice, then I paired them with a navy Tank Top. Black paired with a rich navy is one of my favorite combos. I topped this off with a Long White Swan Hoodie, which adds texture, volume, and interest to the otherwise basic look.
My good friend Karen somehow made the time to stop by my studio for a quick shoot before her company, Box's IPO in February. She's been a fan of my line for years now and her incredible support is humbling.
Most of the pieces she wore are her own, paired with her own shoes and jewelry, so this is how she wears Camilla Olson pieces day to day.
Congratulations on the successful IPO Karen! You look beautiful.
Our GoTo Dress has always been one of my favorite pieces. Sara, a friend and employee at the Four Seasons Silicon Valley, thinks so too. She recently wore a GoTo Dress to a big meeting at the hotel and I think she looks just gorgeous! More importantly, she thought so too.
Sometimes you need to do some work on the weekends but you still need to be beyond comfortable. Because it’s Saturday!
I need to treat myself today so I’m going shipping. My look is very sophisticated and refined but comfy enough that I can be out for the entire day.
For my President’s Day weekend, I’m planning on lots of relaxing beach time. I’m throwing on my super comfy maxi dress and Black Swan Hoodie.
Yesterday we photographed dozens of new looks for our label. So much work goes into planning a Shoot: model selection, defining hair and make up, selecting the photographer, hair and make-up artist, location, and organizing looks. Because we shoot in LA with the lovely and ever-so-talented Tanna Frederick, it also means starting the day on a 6 am flight.
It is easy to imagine that there is the possibility of many details to get missed and compromise the shoot. But yesterday was an exception, it was amazingly peaceful, yet simultaneously energetic, and everything worked like a clock. First thanks go to our artists. Tanna is our onscreen model; Colin Gerse and team work magic with the camera, and Anaid Gutierrez Cruz fulfilled our every desire wrt hair and make-up. We are thrilled with the results that these three talented people produced. But it wouldn't have been remotely possible without the production skills of Shayna and Nicole; the design and sewing collaboration with Mutsuko, Kelli, and Jeannette; and the styling help of Mark. Finally, we were graced with the presence of Nancy who keeps us focused on doing good.
Thank you all. We love the results and can't wait to work with you again. And everyone can see the results here http://www.camillaolson.com/collections/
Be sure to look at both Spring and Fall 2015. Let us know what you think.
Our Maxi is so versatile that our client and friend Karen loves keeping one in her suitcase at all times. She says it is perfect for lounging, shopping, pool side, or an unexpected fancy dinner.
